The chromium content of D2 cold work tool steel (air-hardening tool steel) is 11.5%, and the carbon content is 1.5%. After quenching, it displays a stable hardness of 58–60 HRC and has the fundamental properties of low distortion and high wear resistance. Applications for it include shear cutting dies, drawing dies, stainless steel blanking dies, and hardware stamping dies.
