How Our EDM Machines Work for Your Molds

A key process for improving mold component quality.

Best for

Ribs, pockets, logos, sharp internal corners and local deep features on hardened mold steels.

Typical parts

Small core inserts, slide and lifter details, gate areas and repair of critical mold features.

Depth & complexity

Handles deep cavities and complex 3D shapes where milling and wire EDM cannot reach.

Accuracy & finish

Typical form accuracy within ±0.01 mm, with fine surfaces ready for polishing or texturing.

Workpiece range

From tiny inserts to medium-size components, suitable for localized EDM on hardened blocks.

Result

Stable, repeatable shapes with good surface quality and controlled heat-affected zones.

Sinker EDM for Complex Details

Typical parts

Mold plates, cavity and core inserts, ejector plates, spacer blocks and rails.

Fine details

Narrow clearance slots, thin ribs, small steps and complex outer profiles.

Accuracy & tolerance

Typical dimensional tolerances around ±0.005–0.01 mm on hardened mold steels.

Surface quality

Clean cut surfaces after skim cuts, suitable for fitting and further polishing.

Workpiece range

From small precision inserts to medium mold plates and frames in hardened condition.

Best for

Precision outer profiles and slots when you need high accuracy without distortion.

Quality Inspection & Metrology

EDM Quality Control

Dimensional checks, surface finish inspection and functional fit testing for every EDM part.

Wire EDM – Quality Checks

  • Dimensional Accuracy – ±0.005–0.01 mm on hardened mold steels.
  • Surface Finish – clean cut surfaces and Ra-controlled mating areas.
  • Taper & Deformation – low taper and flatness on thick plates.

Sinker EDM – Quality Checks

  • Cavity Size & Shape – deep cavities and steps checked to drawing.
  • Sharp Corners & Radii – fine internal corners for ribs, pockets and logos.
  • Fit & Assembly – trial fitting of inserts, sliders and guiding surfaces.

Frequently Asked Question

For more information, please contact us
What EDM services do you provide? +
We offer both wire EDM and sinker EDM on mold and tool steels, including profiles, slots, ribs, deep cavities and sharp internal corners.
Which materials can you EDM? +
We mainly process hardened mold steels such as P20, 718, H13, S136, NAK80, SKD11 and related alloy steels; other grades can be confirmed from your spec sheet.
What tolerances can you typically hold? +
Wire EDM can usually achieve around ±0.005–0.01 mm on key dimensions, depending on part size, thickness and geometry.
How about surface finish for EDM parts? +
We offer normal EDM, fine EDM and mirror EDM on selected surfaces, with surface roughness checked according to your drawing.
What is the maximum part size you can handle? +
We handle small inserts up to medium-size mold plates and blocks; send length, width, thickness and weight so we can confirm machine capability.
Do you accept 1-piece or small batch EDM jobs? +
Yes, we support single-piece samples, repair parts and small trial batches before larger production orders.
What drawings or files do you need? +
2D drawings (PDF, DWG, DXF) with dimensions and tolerances plus 3D models (STEP, X_T, IGS, etc.) are preferred for complex cavities and electrodes.
Can you supply the steel, heat treat it and then do EDM? +
Yes, we can supply mold steel blocks, perform heat treatment and then finish the parts by wire and sinker EDM so you receive ready-to-assemble components.
How long is the lead time for EDM machining? +
Typical EDM lead time is about 3–5 working days after drawings and material are confirmed; complex parts or larger batches may need extra time.
Do you provide inspection reports for EDM parts? +
Yes, on request we can provide dimensional inspection records, CMM reports and surface roughness results for critical EDM features.
