2738 is a pre-hardened plastic mold steel supplied at 32–36 HRC. With higher nickel content, it provides good toughness, uniform through-hardness and high hardenability, together with good EDM performance and fine photo-etching surface finish. Most of the surface oxide scale is removed in delivery condition, improving material utilization and reducing machining cost. It is suitable for plastic molds where surface brightness and gloss requirements are not extremely high. Steel blocks can be cut to size according to customer drawings.
